Landed Cost Calculator

A landed cost calculator adds the goods value to the costs required to place those goods at the declared destination. Enter international freight, insurance, broker-confirmed duty and import tax, brokerage, destination delivery and other landed expenses in one currency, then divide by saleable units only when the quantity basis is consistent. The result supports sourcing and margin analysis but does not determine customs classification, origin, valuation, Incoterm responsibility, recoverable tax or later storage and exception charges. Preserve every input source beside the exported result.

Calculate Total and Per-Unit Landed Cost

Enter goods value and confirmed import-cost components in one currency, plus the number of saleable units. The tool reports total landed cost, additions and per-unit cost without inventing classification, tax or valuation inputs.

Enter confirmed costs in one currency. Use zero only when a line is genuinely outside the shipment or already included elsewhere.

Evidence Required for the Landed Cost Calculator

The calculator is deliberately evidence-first. Each input needs a named source and one consistent cargo, route, currency, date and endpoint; an unknown amount or duration should remain an open question rather than being converted into a convenient zero.

Use the Landed Cost Calculator in a Freight Decision

A result becomes useful only when another person can reproduce it and see its limitations. Follow this sequence before a quote comparison, booking, customs handoff or physical loading decision is approved.

  1. Freeze the final cargo and scope relevant to landed cost calculator; record the packing revision, origin, destination, endpoint and evidence date.
  2. Collect every calculator input from a current primary record, quotation, carrier instruction, broker review, scale record or measured package instead of filling gaps with a generic web value.
  3. Run the declared formula: Goods value + freight + insurance + confirmed duty + confirmed import tax + brokerage + destination delivery + other landed costs; then divide by saleable units. Keep every zero, minimum, divisor, rate, duration or clearance assumption visible.
  4. Stress-test the result against HS classification, customs valuation adjustments and origin preference before using the numerical ranking in a booking or sourcing decision.
  5. Download the CSV, attach the cited evidence and circulate the same version to the buyer, supplier, forwarder, broker, warehouse and receiver who own the affected handoffs.
  6. Rerun the tool after any packing, route, provider, tariff, customs, equipment or endpoint change; verify recoverable VAT or GST, storage after delay and damaged or unsaleable units before release.

Worked Landed Cost Calculator Example

This example demonstrates the arithmetic and evidence trail, not a current market rate, tariff, schedule or equipment promise. Replace every number with shipment-specific evidence and preserve the differences when the result is shared.

What the Calculation Cannot Approve

Numerical output does not transfer legal, commercial or physical responsibility. These adjacent questions remain with the carrier, broker, importer, warehouse, packing engineer, insurer or receiver named in the shipment plan.

Landed Cost Calculator Questions

These answers separate transparent planning arithmetic from live rates, schedules, customs decisions and physical acceptance. Keep the current written evidence beside every exported result.

Is landed cost the same as customs value?

No. Customs value follows destination valuation rules, while landed cost is a business view of goods and all declared costs to an endpoint.

Should recoverable import tax be included?

Model it consistently with accounting treatment. The calculator cannot determine whether VAT, GST or another tax is recoverable.

Which quantity should divide the total?

Use the quantity relevant to the decision, normally saleable units received. State if samples, spare parts or expected damage are excluded.

When should the estimate be updated?

Update after final packing, quote changes, broker review, customs assessment and destination invoices so sourcing margins do not rely on stale inputs.
