Is carton CBM the same as product volume?
No. Freight uses the outside packed envelope, including carton and protection, while product volume can be much smaller.
Can I average different carton sizes?
Avoid it. Calculate each uniform group separately so a later load plan and remeasurement can be audited.
Does 1.2 CBM guarantee that the cartons fit in 1.2 CBM of container space?
No. Whole-unit geometry, orientation, clearance, stacking and loading access create unused space.
When should I recalculate?
After any carton, pallet, crate or protective-packing change and before the booking is released.
